Spring Training

Spring Training Game 4: Yankees 4, Orioles 1

Man, this game was pretty uneventful, but I guess that’s just how spring training games go. The score was 1-1 heading into the 9th, when a short Yankee rally lead by OF Clint Frazier’s leadoff double was capped off with a 3-run HR by 2B Thairo Estrada.

The wind was really carrying down in Florida yesterday. This game was the 21-year old Estrada’s first appearance of the spring.

A couple other things of note. OF Aaron Judge hit a wonky-as-all-hell triple off of former Yankee Vidal Nuno in the 4th. Really, it was a fly ball to deep left, but LF Hyun Soo Kim lost the ball in the sun and it sailed right over his head, landing on the warning track. That’s why you where your sunglasses, and that’s why you always run em out, folks. Judge shined in the field as well, showing off his stellar arm when none other than LF Hyun Soo Kim tried to stretch a single into a double.

Bad day for Kim, good day for Judge.

Chad Green got the start and pitched two rather uneventful innings, allowing 1 H and 1 BB. RHP Giovanny Gallegos made his second appearance of the spring, looking much stronger than he did in his first game, giving up 0 H and 1 BB over 2 IP while striking out 2. His breaking ball was biting hard, which was good to see.

Other lines of note:

DH Greg Bird: 2-3, 1 2B
C Austin Romine: 1-3, 1 R
SS Jorge Mateo: 0-2. He’s still hitless this spring.
OF Aaron Judge: 1-3, 1 3B, 1 RBI on a fielder’s choice

The Yankees take on the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers today in some split squad action. Both games start at 1:05 p.m. EST.
